America First Mines (AFM) is a domestic mining company dedicated to the exploration, development, and responsible extraction of critical minerals and rare earth elements across the United States.
Founded on the principle that America’s national security and economic prosperity depend on a secure domestic supply of strategic minerals, AFM is building a portfolio of projects that will reduce our nation’s dangerous dependence on foreign sources — particularly China, which currently controls over 60% of global rare earth production.
We combine modern exploration technology, responsible mining practices, and a deep commitment to American communities to develop the mineral resources our nation needs for defense, technology, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.
Yttrium: A Critical Rare Earth Element
Yttrium (Y, atomic number 39) is classified among the heavy rare earth elements and is one of the most strategically important minerals for advanced technology. Despite being relatively abundant in the Earth’s crust, economically viable deposits are rare and concentrated.
Global demand for pure yttrium in advanced infrastructure is projected to rise by 18% from 2024 to 2026, driven by expanding applications in defense, energy, and medical technologies.
